About Me (Teresa)I measure my success by the ways in which I improve other people's lives, be it through solving a big, big problem, or sharing a small kindness.
My career as a corporate HR leader was fulfilling because I was able to help all kinds of people tackle and succeed through all kinds of problems, big and small. Today, my customers get the same kind of help and support, as I help them successfully navigate their retirement by mitigating risk and seizing opportunity with annuities. Why I Do What I DoI believe I am STILL here on Earth to help others, in very specific ways.
Still? Yes, you see, my life and work was interrupted on 9/11/20 by one of the most profound events in my life: a medical emergency, one which forced me to face my own fears and challenges. It was Friday, I'd felt poorly but had worked all day...and finally, after being coerced to go to the hospital, by 5 pm we were enroute to the Emergency Room. My husband was driving, and I was a reluctant passenger, until I went into full cardiac arrest. At that point, I became a completely dead and fully compliant passenger, about halfway to the ER. My incredible husband had a life-altering decision to make in a split second: pull over, dial 911 for an ambulance, OR drive fast as hell to the hospital. He got me there, and I was DOA. My odds of surviving were pretty much zero, and IF I DID survive, no one could say what brain damage I'd have, after having been without oxygen for a good 15 minutes…or more. My body was chilled, I was intubated and I sunk into a coma. 10 days later, after I was successfully weaned off life support, I suddenly and surprisingly woke up...and instantly became a pain in the butt for the ICU staff! I wasn't allowed to have my cell phone since my family was afraid I'd use it to Uber myself home, so I'd wheel myself to the nurses station and insist that they harass my family for me. Apparently, I summoned the Director of Nursing for a dinner meeting, over which I proceeded to threaten her and the medical center with legal action for holding me against my will (I'm happy to say, with chagrin, that I don't recall ANY of this). And what better way to help people than by protecting their peace of mind and financial security? The Happy EndingAfter my full medical recovery, I figured that since I'd been "kicked out" of heaven, I might as well give everything away and move to “heaven on Earth” to begin my 2nd life.
